Stable Swedish softwood lumber exports

In May 2017, the Swedish sawmills exported the same amount of softwood lumber in sawn and planed form, as compared to the previous month.

However, there were some changes in volumes. For example, exports to Africa and America were significantly less than in May 2016, wile the volume of exports to East Asia, in particular, rose significantly.

In the period from January to May 2017, 3% less softwood lumber exports were made, as compared to the same period last year. Above all, the quantity of exports to Africa has declined vigorously. During the mentioned period, East Asia and the US received much more softwood timber from Sweden.

In the case of the individual countries, fewer deliveries were made to Egypt and Denmark in May 2017. The biggest increase is recorded in China, but also to Germany received 12% more Swedish softwood lumber than in May 2016.

In the first five months of the year there were the largest increases in quantities to China, Japan and Norway. Less was delivered mainly to Egypt and Denmark. In this period, Germany accounted for 9% less softwood lumber than in the previous year.

The average price of Sweden's softwood timber exports in May 2017 was 9.7% higher than last year's figure, at 2,055 SEK / cbm FOB.
