Germany: Pine log price index loses momentum

AlternativtextThe German producer price indices for pine continued their upward trend somewhat more cautiously in February 2021. On average, the wood species increased by 0.8% compared to January to a level of 73.8 points. B-grades showed a downward trend - by -1.62% to 85 points. 3/4 m lengths gave way by 1% to 90.6 points.

On the other hand, C-logs caught up considerably with an average increase of 4.7% to a level of 62.4 points, with 3 m lengths with a jump of 10% to 70.3 points made a particular contribution to this. B/C qualities fell by 5.9% to 67 points.

AlternativtextPine pulpwood rose by 7.6% to 67.6 points in February. Together with Douglas fir pulpwood (7.8% to 52.5 points) it drove the index for softwood pulpwood up by 4.1% to a level of 55.5 points, while spruce pulpwood suffered losses: -0, 7% to 46 points.

In a year-on-year comparison, the pine index fell by 3% - as did B grades in general and in 3/4 m lengths. C-logs recorded an increase of 1%, with 3 m lengths increasing by 8%. And the index for pine pulpwood gained 1% compared to the value of the same month last year.
