A third straight week of slack framing lumber sales prompted producers to take a more aggressive approach to trading. Coast dry framing mills were on the leading edge of what traders noted was looking more and more like a “June swoon,” after prices had smashed previous record highs a month earlier. Weakness in the futures market helped to set the tone, with three consecutive down-limit days before a bounce on Thursday. The Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price shed $11 for the week.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
Structural panel prices were mostly flat amid conservative trading. Most OSB buyers stayed on the sidelines, waiting to see if producers would cut prices. Softness at the mill level was most pronounced in the West, where double-digit discounts emerged. Southern Pine plywood buyers replenished sparingly, as mills held close to recently quoted levels. Occasional discounts surfaced on carloads. For the second consecutive week, western Fir plywood trading was quiet but steady.
