Western Red Cedar
"Western Red Cedar", also known in nature as the "tree of life". Botanically, "Thuja plicata" belongs to Cupressaceae. The Western Red Cedar spread area in the west part of North America from Alaska to California and east to Montana. The trunks can grow to a height without knots of 25 meters and Trees can reach up to 1,000 years. Western red Cedarwood is quite resistant to cold. Slow-grown cedar wood of Western Red Cedar is very light and offers high stability and durability. Its uniform fine-grained structure allows excellent workability and is therefore used for wooden facades, decking and sauna usage. Cedarwood cladding is highly resistant to decomposition, so it is not necessary to treat the wood. Durability: For external use, Red Cedar is highly preferred in architecture due to its resistance to moisture, decomposition and insect resistance. It has a lifetime of 50 to 100 years or more, so it is used for outdoor purposes. The surface finish of the Red Cedar cladding is excellent and also maintained thanks to a natural element called Thujaplicins as well as several water-soluble substances that act as preservatives. Therefore, it provides services without tension for many years. Stability: Red Cedar cladding provides high dimensional stability due to low density and contraction factors. They are high resistance to the action of several forces in motion, such as torsion, deformation and control, does not lead to any change in them. Appearance: Whenever Red Cedar is used, it provides a feeling of natural beauty and tenderness, which cannot be achieved by using its alternatives such as cement, plastic or other metals. Cedarwood cladding offers a beautiful form of finish with a fine-grained texture. Colour: sapwood is whitish and 2-5 cm wide, the core of the wood is reddish-brown to reddish-brown, often variable. The density of dried wood varies between 340-460 kg / m3, depending on the width of the age rings. After drying, the wood has average dimensional stability, is comfortable and clean with it, has an evenly smooth surface, is easy to polish and finishes. Humidity on delivery is approximate - 18-20% for outdoor floor wood and 10-12% for facades. Cedarwood was affordable even in ancient times. It contains a resin that gives it a typical scent. Internal substances can leak from fresh cut areas and cause wall discolouration. We, therefore, recommend treating all trimmed edges with OSMO Wax for trimmed edges n. 5735. For Western Red Cedar, it is necessary to use non-corrosive fasteners in exterior constructions. The natural greyness of light after almost half a year of weathering is universal and does not affect its quality and durability. Colour differences between the individual boards are typical and may be visible. Wood: approx. 340 - 460 kg / m3. In addition to cladding or decking, Western Red Cedar is also used to create things such as fencing, birdhouse, seeders, siding, boat, boxes. Thanks to its property, it is also used for the production of various types of outdoor and indoor items and protects against insect damage or damage by insects. Resistance to decay: Western Red Cedar heartwood is renowned for its high decay-resistance. This natural durability is attributed to the presence of extractives- mainly the thujaplicins, and to a lesser extent, |
